Furniture Removal in Airdrie & Calgary: What It Costs and How It Works

Let me be straight with you — furniture removal is probably 40% of the calls we get at TJ's Junk Removal. Someone's got a couch that's been sitting in the basement for two years, a dining table they replaced during the pandemic, or they just moved into a place and the previous owners left behind a broken recliner nobody wants to touch.

If you're searching for furniture removal in Airdrie or Calgary, you probably just want two things: a price and a plan. Here's both.

What Furniture Removal Costs in Airdrie & Calgary

I can't give you a flat dollar amount without seeing what you've got, but I can tell you what determines the price so you're not guessing.

We price by volume — specifically, how much space your furniture takes up in our truck. The truck holds 16 cubic yards, which is roughly a full pickup truck load. Most furniture removal jobs take up a quarter to half of that.

Here's a rough breakdown based on what we actually see:

Single item pickup (one couch, one armchair, one mattress): $80–$150
Small load (2–3 pieces, like a couch + coffee table + lamp): $130–$200
Medium load (living room set or bedroom set, 4–6 pieces): $200–$350
Full house furniture removal (entire home or large basement): $350–$700

If you're in Airdrie, there's no extra travel fee — we're based here and we service Airdrie at the same rate as Calgary. If you're in Calgary, same thing. We don't charge extra just because you're in the deep southeast or up in Sage Hill.

The price includes labor (we load everything), disposal fees (we take it to the dump or recycling center), and fuel. No hidden line items. We give you the price before we start, and it doesn't change unless you add more stuff while we're there — which happens more than you'd think.

What Furniture We Take (and What We Don't)

We haul out pretty much anything that's considered household furniture:

  • Sofas, couches, loveseats, sectionals
  • Dining tables and chairs
  • Bed frames, box springs, mattresses (yes, even if they're stained or torn)
  • Dressers, nightstands, armoires
  • Desks, bookshelves, office chairs
  • Coffee tables, end tables, entertainment centers
  • Patio furniture, outdoor sets
  • Recliners, lift chairs, electric recliners (we'll disconnect them)
  • Water-damaged, smoke-damaged, or broken furniture — we don't care about condition

What we don't take: furniture that contains hazardous materials (like old CRT TVs built into entertainment centers), or furniture that's been contaminated with biohazards (human waste, animal waste, mold that's actively growing). We're honest about this upfront so you don't waste your time.

How the Process Works (It's Simple)

  1. You call or text us at 403-618-0707 and tell us what you need gone. Be specific — "a sectional, a queen mattress, and a dresser" is better than "some furniture."
  2. We give you a price over the phone or via text. If it's a bigger job, we might ask for a photo or do a quick video call. Usually we can price it without stepping foot inside.
  3. We show up at your scheduled time. We drive a marked truck, we come in, we load everything. You don't lift a finger.
  4. We haul it away and handle the disposal. Furniture in good condition gets donated if possible. Everything else goes to the proper facility — landfill, recycling, or transfer station.

The whole thing usually takes 15 to 45 minutes depending on how much you've got. We're in and out.

Should You Rent a Dumpster or Just Call for Pickup?

This is a common question, so I'll address it directly. If you're getting rid of furniture only — no construction debris, no drywall, no roofing shingles — a dumpster rental is usually overkill. You're paying for a bin that sits in your driveway for a week when the job itself takes half an hour.

Calling a junk removal company is cheaper for furniture-only jobs. You pay for the actual space you use, not for a whole dumpster. Plus, you don't have to haul the furniture to the bin yourself. We carry it up from the basement, down the stairs, out the back door — wherever it is.

If you're doing a full renovation and the furniture is just part of a bigger pile of debris, then a dumpster might make sense. But for furniture alone? Just call for a pickup.

Why People in Airdrie & Calgary Call Us

We've been doing this long enough that most of our business comes from repeat customers and referrals. People call us because:

  • We show up when we say we will. Not between 8 and 5. At the time we booked.
  • We don't add fees after the fact. The price we quote is the price you pay.
  • We actually try to donate usable furniture. If your couch is in decent shape, it's going to a local charity, not the landfill.
  • We're local. Our number is an Airdrie area code. We live here. We're not a franchise based out of Ontario.

If you've got furniture you need gone, call or text us at 403-618-0707. We'll give you a price, get you on the schedule, and have it out the door — usually within 24 hours.
