Garage Cleanout in Airdrie & Calgary: Cost, What We Haul, and How to Prep

I've lost count of how many garage cleanouts we've done around Airdrie and Calgary. Most folks don't call us because the garage is a little messy. They call because they can't park their car in it anymore, or they're moving, or they finally decided to turn it into a workshop and realized there's three feet of "stuff" between them and that goal.

If you're staring at a garage that's swallowed the lawnmower, that's the right time to call. Here's what a garage cleanout actually costs, what we take, and how to make the whole thing go smooth.

What Does a Garage Cleanout Cost in Airdrie & Calgary?

There's no flat rate, and anyone who quotes you one over the phone without seeing the garage is guessing. Our pricing is based on how much space your stuff takes up in the truck. Most residential garage cleanouts fall into one of three buckets:

• Light cleanout ($150–$350): A couple of old shelves, a broken table, some boxes of junk, maybe an old bike. Usually fills less than a quarter of the truck.
• Mid-size cleanout ($350–$700): This is the most common. A full carport or single-car garage with old furniture, tools, tires, boxes, a broken appliance or two, and general clutter. Usually fills half to three-quarters of the truck.
• Full garage haul ($700–$1,200+): A double garage packed floor to ceiling, or a garage with heavy items like an old workbench, a fridge, a deep freeze, a washer/dryer, or a bunch of lumber and metal. This can take a full truckload or more.

The estimate is free, and we give it on the spot when we arrive. If the price sounds higher than you expected, we'll tell you why — usually it's weight and how many trips it'll take. We don't charge hidden fees for fuel or disposal. The number we quote is the number you pay.

What We Take (and What We Don't)

The short version: we take almost everything that isn't hazardous waste. That includes:

• Furniture — couches, chairs, tables, desks, mattresses and box springs
• Appliances — fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers
• Yard stuff — old lawnmowers, snow blowers, garden tools, planters, bags of yard waste
• Tools and hardware — shelving, workbenches, power tools, scrap metal, lumber
• Electronics — TVs, computers, monitors, stereos (we recycle these properly)
• Tires — we haul them and dispose of them through the right channels
• Boxes, bags, and general clutter — all the stuff you can't even identify anymore

What we don't take: paint, chemicals, solvents, asbestos, and other hazardous materials. A lot of garages have old paint cans sitting in the corner. You'll need to take those to a City of Calgary or Airdrie household hazardous waste depot yourself. We can haul the rest, but we won't pick up paint or chemicals — it's a safety and legal thing, and we're not going to bend the rules on it.

How to Prep for a Garage Cleanout

A little prep on your end makes the job faster and cheaper. Here's what I'd do:

1. Walk through and decide what stays. You don't need us to haul things you're keeping. Pull out the stuff you want to keep and set it aside — ideally outside the garage or in a corner we can work around.
2. Separate the hazardous stuff. Pull out any paint, chemicals, oil, or batteries and set them aside. You'll take those to the depot yourself. We'll point you to the right one when we're there.
3. Don't bother bagging everything. We'd rather you leave it loose. If you bag it, we still have to carry the bags, and honestly loose is easier for us to load and sort.
4. Check for anything sentimental or valuable. I can't tell you how many times we've pulled a box out and the homeowner says, "Oh wait, that's my grandma's china." Do the sweep for keepsakes before we show up, not during.

Why Not Just Rent a Dumpster?

People ask this a lot, and it's a fair question. A dumpster rental makes sense if you're doing a big renovation and you're going to be filling it over several weeks. But for a one-day garage cleanout, hiring a hauling crew is usually cheaper and way less work.

With a dumpster, you're paying for the bin, the delivery, the pickup, and the weight. Then you still have to haul every single item from your garage to the bin yourself — up stairs, across the driveway, whatever. With us, we do all the lifting and loading. We're in and out in an hour or two, and the stuff is gone the same day. No sitting with a dumpster in your driveway for a week while the neighbors judge you.

Plus, we sort as we go. Metal gets recycled, electronics get recycled, usable furniture sometimes gets donated. A dumpster just throws it all in a landfill.
