Most hot tubs in Strathmore end up the same way. They worked fine for ten, fifteen years, then the pump goes, or the heater quits, and the cost to fix it is more than the tub's worth. So it sits. Covered with a tarp in the spring, buried under snow in the winter, taking up a quarter of your yard off Brentwood Boulevard or behind a house on Maple Drive.

I'm TJ. I run TJ's Junk Removal out of Strathmore, and I pull old hot tubs out of yards like yours every week. Not just the tub itself — the deck boards around it, the old cover, the wiring, all of it. How a hot tub removal actually works here

A hot tub removal is a two-part job, and the first part is the one most people don't think about. Before anything gets lifted, the tub has to be drained. In Strathmore, that means getting the water out without flooding your lawn or dumping it where it shouldn't go. I drain it responsibly, and I make sure it's fully emptied before we move it — a 400-gallon tub full of water weighs a couple thousand pounds, and I'm not dragging that across anyone's grass.

Once it's drained, I disassemble what needs disassembling. Some tubs come apart in sections. Some are one solid fiberglass shell. If it's sitting on a deck, the deck boards come up first. If it's behind a fence gate, I check the gate width before I even back the truck in — some of the older Strathmore lots have narrow access, and I'd rather know that upfront than halfway through.

Then it goes on my truck and I haul it to the transfer station. You don't have to rent a bin, you don't have to find a friend with a truck, and you don't have to make three trips to the dump yourself.

What Strathmore folks actually ask about

The biggest thing people here worry about is the concrete pad. A lot of Strathmore homes have their hot tub on a poured slab, and when the tub comes off, that pad is still there. I don't break up concrete as part of a standard hot tub removal — that's a separate job — but I'll be straight with you about what's left behind and what it'll take to deal with it. If you want the pad gone too, I can arrange that.

The other thing is timing. Strathmore winters are long, and nobody wants to dig a frozen tub out of a snowdrift in February. Spring and early summer are the busy season for removals here — everyone's looking at their yard after the snow melts and deciding it's time. If you're thinking about it, book early. I can usually get to you within a week, sometimes faster.

Pricing and what you're paying for

I charge based on the size of the tub and how much work the access takes. A standard 6-person tub with clear access from a driveway or wide gate runs less than a big 8-person model that's tucked behind a fence with decking to pull up. I'll give you a straight price over the phone before I come out — no surprises, no "well, that's extra" when I get there.

You're paying for the whole job: draining, disassembly, hauling, and disposal. I don't charge extra for the cover or the deck boards around the tub — that's all part of it.
