Appliance Removal in Calgary – TJ's Junk Removal

If you've got an old fridge sitting in a garage in Evergreen or a broken washer taking up space in a Bridgeland basement suite, I'll come get it. No fuss, no hidden fees, and I haul it away the same day if the schedule allows.

I'm TJ. I run a small junk removal outfit here in Calgary, and I handle every job myself or with one other guy. That means when you call, you talk to me — not a call centre. I show up, we look at what needs to go, I give you a straight price, and we load it up.

What I Haul and What I Don't

I take pretty much any household appliance:

• Fridges and freezers (including the old beer fridges people keep in their garage in places like Lake Bonavista)
• Stoves, ovens, and range hoods
• Dishwashers
• Washers and dryers
• Microwaves and built-in units
• Window AC units and portable air conditioners
• Water softeners and hot water tanks (drained and disconnected — I can't disconnect gas or hard plumbing, so have a plumber do that first)

What I don't take: appliances that still contain refrigerant that hasn't been properly recovered. If your fridge or AC unit still has a live coolant line, you'll need a certified tech to recover the refrigerant first. Once that's done, I'll take the rest.

How It Works in Calgary

Calgary's a big city, and appliance removal plays out a bit differently depending on where you live.

In the inner city (Beltline, Inglewood, Mission, Bridgeland): Most jobs are in basement suites or older walk-ups with tight staircases. I've carried a cast-iron stove up from a basement in Crescent Heights — it's doable, but it helps if you give me a heads-up about stairs and tight corners. I bring a dolly and straps.

In the suburbs (Sage Hill, Rocky Ridge, Mahogany, Walden): The challenge here is often the garage. Lots of folks have an old deep freeze or a chest freezer buried behind bins and boxes. I'll dig it out, no extra charge. Just point me at it.

In established neighbourhoods (Varsity, Haysboro, Killarney): These are the areas where I run into older appliances that have been sitting for years — sometimes decades. The rubber seals are shot, the thing weighs a ton, and the handles might snap off. I've hauled enough of these to know how to handle it without damaging your floors or door frames.

What It Costs and Why

I don't have a flat rate because every job is different. Here's roughly what affects the price:

• Size of the appliance – A mini fridge costs less than a full-size French-door fridge.
• Location in the home – Ground-floor garage is easier than a basement with narrow stairs.
• How many units – If you're clearing out a whole rental property or a flipped house, I can bundle them and save you per-unit.
• Disposal fees – Fridges and freezers cost more to dispose of because the foam insulation and refrigerant lines need proper handling. I take everything to a licensed facility in southeast Calgary that handles appliance recycling.

A typical single appliance removal runs between $80 and $150 depending on those factors. If you want a firm number, text me a photo and a short description, and I'll quote you over the phone.

What Happens After I Load It

I don't dump appliances in a landfill if I can help it. Fridges, freezers, and AC units go to a recycler that recovers the refrigerant, strips the metal, and crushes the foam. Washers, dryers, and stoves get the same treatment — metal gets recycled, wiring gets stripped, and what's left gets disposed of properly.

If the appliance is still in working condition, I'll sometimes donate it. I work with a couple of charities in Calgary that accept used appliances, but they're picky — it has to work, be reasonably clean, and not be from the 1980s. If yours qualifies, I'll let you know and you can write off the donation on your taxes.
