Mattress Removal in Calgary, Done Right
Getting an old mattress out of a Calgary home
If you've ever tried to move a mattress out of a walk-up in Mission or down a tight stairwell in a Bankview bungalow, you know it's not a one-person job. And the city doesn't just take them with your regular blue cart pickup. Calgary requires you to book bulky item collection separately, and they only take a couple of items per pickup — with strict rules about what they'll accept. Most people in this city end up stuck with a mattress in the garage or leaning against the fence for weeks.
That's where we come in. I'm TJ, and my crew does one thing: we show up when we say we will, haul the mattress out, and get it to the right place. No sitting in your driveway waiting, no "it'll cost more when we see it" surprises.
How it works in your neighbourhood
Calgary has some quirks that matter when you're hauling a mattress. If you're in a condo or apartment in the Beltline, downtown, or along the LRT corridors, we need to know about elevator access and loading dock rules before we arrive — some buildings have freight hours, and we'll work around them. If you're in a newer community like Sage Hill or Mahogany with a garage, most of the time we can back right up and load in under ten minutes.
Older areas like Inglewood, Killarney, and the inner-city neighborhoods have narrow lots and sometimes a fence gate to navigate. We bring a proper dolly and we're used to it. And if you're out in the deep SW like Aspen Woods or Springbank Hill, we'll still get to you the same week — we cover every quadrant of the city.
What happens to the mattress after we take it
Here's the part Calgary homeowners actually care about: we don't just dump it. Mattresses are one of the few items the city's landfill charges extra to dispose of, and a lot of the "cheap" removal outfits skip the paperwork entirely. We take every mattress we collect to a licensed recycling facility that breaks them down — the steel springs get recovered, the foam gets repurposed, and the fabric gets processed. It keeps hundreds of pounds out of the landfill every week, and it's the right thing to do in a city that's serious about waste reduction.
What it costs and what affects the price
Our base rate covers a standard queen or king mattress pickup anywhere in Calgary. A few things can change the quote, and I'd rather be upfront than surprise you:
- Stairs. Ground floor or garage access is the easiest. A basement with a narrow stairwell, or a walk-up apartment, adds a bit of time and labour.
- Extra items. If you're also getting rid of a box spring, a bed frame, or other furniture at the same time, we bundle it into one trip and one price — it's usually cheaper than booking two pickups.
- Location. We cover all of Calgary at the same rate. No "you're out in the far NW, that's a zone charge" nonsense.
You'll get a firm number over the phone before we come out. That's the price. We take cash, card, or e-transfer.
If you've got a mattress that needs to go, call or text us at (825) 559-2766 and we'll get you on the schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Does the City of Calgary pick up mattresses with regular garbage collection?
No. Calgary treats mattresses as bulky waste, which requires a separate booking with 311, and they limit how many items per pickup. If you miss the window or have more than the limit, you're stuck. We'll take it off your hands the same week, no booking hassle.
Can you get a mattress out of a downtown condo or apartment?
Yes. We deal with Beltline, East Village, and downtown buildings regularly. Just let us know about elevator access or freight hours when you call, and we'll schedule around the building's rules.
Do you actually recycle the mattresses, or just dump them?
We take every mattress to a licensed recycling facility in Calgary. The steel, foam, and fabric get separated and repurposed rather than going to the landfill. It's included in your price, no extra charge.
What if I have a box spring or bed frame to get rid of too?
Bundle them in. Adding a box spring or frame to the same pickup costs less than booking a second trip, and we'll give you one flat quote over the phone before we come out.
Do you charge extra for basement suites or upstairs bedrooms?
A standard ground-floor or garage pickup is our base rate. If the mattress is down a tight basement stairwell or up a couple of floors in a walk-up, there's a small adjustment for the extra time and labour — and we'll tell you the exact number before we arrive.
