Basement Cleanout in Crossfield

Crossfield basements are a different animal than the ones in Airdrie or Calgary. A lot of the houses here went up in the big building push in the late 90s and early 2000s, and plenty more are older farm-style homes that got moved into town or built on the edge of the old village core. That means two things: you've got crawl spaces and half-finished basements that have been collecting stuff since before some of the newer subdivisions even existed, and you've got a lot of stuff that's been sitting down there through a few hard Alberta winters.

I'm TJ. I run a small junk removal crew out of here, and I do basement cleanouts in Crossfield every week. Here's how it actually works in this town.

What ends up in Crossfield basements

Walk into any basement in the older part of Crossfield — around the original townsite near the museum, or the older streets off Centre Street — and you'll find the same story. Boxes of canning jars and old preserving equipment from the farm days. Wooden furniture that's too heavy and too sentimental to just throw out. Fifty years of Christmas decorations. A workbench with tools nobody's touched since 1998.

In the newer areas — the subdivisions that went in off Westview Road and around the south end — it's a different mess. Renovation debris from a half-finished basement project that ran out of steam. Old water heaters, drywall offcuts, carpet remnants from when the place was flipped. A lot of people move here from Calgary for the space, then spend two years filling that space and never sorting it.

Either way, it's the same result: a basement you can't use, and no easy way to get rid of the stuff. Crossfield doesn't have a landfill on the doorstep, and the transfer station has rules about what they'll take and when. That's where I come in.

How a basement cleanout works here

I come out, walk through the basement with you, and give you a straight price before I lift a finger. No hidden fees, no "well, it's heavier than we thought" surprises at the end. If it fits through the door and down the stairs, I'll haul it out — furniture, appliances, boxes, construction debris, old carpet, whatever's down there.

We work out of your house through the basement stairs or the walkout if you've got one. I bring the crew and the truck; you don't have to lift anything. We load it, sweep up the worst of the dust, and take everything to the right place — recycling what can be recycled, donating anything still usable, and hauling the rest to the dump.

One thing that's specific to Crossfield: a lot of these basements are on the older side, with narrow stairwells and tight corners. I've gone in with a measuring tape before we start moving big pieces, and I've taken apart a few dressers to get them up the stairs. That's just part of the job here, and it's why I don't quote you blind over the phone — I want to see the stairs and the layout first.

What it costs and what affects the price

Most Crossfield basement cleanouts land between $300 and $900, depending on how much is down there and what it is. The big factors are volume (how much of the truck we fill), weight (a full basement of old lumber and appliances is heavier than boxes of clothes), and how hard it is to get things out of the house.

I charge by the load, not by the hour, so you're not watching a clock. If we fill the truck and there's more, we talk about a second trip or a follow-up day — but I'll tell you up front if I think that's coming, not spring it on you at the end.

Basements worth cleaning out

If you're prepping to sell a house in Crossfield, a clean basement is one of the fastest ways to make it show better.
