Calgary Furniture Removal That Actually Shows Up

If you're reading this, you've probably got a piece of furniture taking up space that needs to go. Maybe it's that old sectional in the basement that nobody sits on. A bedroom set from the '80s that came with the house when you bought it in Evergreen. Or a heavy oak dining table that your back can't handle moving down those townhouse stairs in Bridgeland.

I'm TJ. I run a small junk removal truck around Calgary, and furniture removal is most of what I do week in and week out. I'll be honest — I've seen too many folks get burned by the big franchise crews that quote one price over the phone and tack on fees when they see the stairs. That's not how I run things.

How Furniture Removal Works in Calgary Homes

Calgary has a mix of housing stock, and each type changes how the job goes. A walkout bungalow in Lake Bonavista is a different job than a third-floor walkup in a Beltline condo.

Here's what I do:

• I come to you. You text or call, we pick a window, and I show up in my box truck.
• I look at the stuff. I need to see what we're dealing with — size, weight, what it's made of. A particle board IKEA dresser breaks down fast. A solid wood china cabinet from the '70s needs two guys and some care.
• I give you a firm price. Before I lift a finger. Stairs or a long carry are in the quote from the start — no "oh, this is heavier than I thought."
• We load it. I bring it down, through the door, and onto the truck. I work clean — I lay down runners on hardwood floors and I don't bang up your doorframes.
• I take it away. What can be donated goes to the Women's Centre or the Mustard Seed. The rest gets sorted at the Shepard landfill or recycled if possible.

Where Furniture Piles Up in Calgary

I've pulled furniture out of every corner of this city. Here's what I see most often:

In the inner city (Bridgeland, Inglewood, Mission, Beltline): Old walkups and character homes with narrow staircases and tight doorways. A lot of tenants moving in and out, leaving behind couches and bed frames that the next renter doesn't want. I often haul out whole apartment clear-outs in a single trip.

In the suburbs (Cranston, Mahogany, Evergreen, Tuscany, Nolan Hill): Basement suites and garage storage. People upgrade their living room set and the old one sits in the basement for two years before they call me. I also do a lot of estate cleanouts in Lake Bonavista and Deer Run — families clearing out a parent's home after they've passed or moved into assisted living.

In the NW (Bowness, Montgomery, Varsity): Older homes with decades of furniture accumulation. I've pulled out everything from water-damaged dressers to heavy oak hutches that haven't moved since the 1960s.

What It Costs to Remove Furniture in Calgary

I don't have a flat rate because every job is different. But I'll give you a realistic idea so you're not guessing:

• One small item (a chair, a nightstand): the $50 minimum charge
• One medium item (a couch, a dresser, a queen bed frame): $100–$150 (an eighth to a quarter truck)
• A full living room set (couch, loveseat, coffee table, TV stand): $250 (a half truck)
• A full house or basement clear-out: $375–$500 (three-quarters to a full truck), sometimes more than one load

These prices include labour, truck, disposal fees, and tax. If you're in a walkout bungalow with ground-level access, the price leans low. If I'm hauling a heavy sectional up from a basement suite in Capitol Hill and through a narrow side door, it'll be on the higher end. That's just the reality of the job.

One thing I won't do: I won't quote you one number over the phone and then charge you double when I get there. I'd rather tell you the real price upfront so you can decide if it works for you.

What I Can and Can't Take

I can take: Couches, sectionals, loveseats, armchairs, recliners. Bed frames, headboards, box springs, mattresses. Dressers, nightstands, armoires, wardrobes. Dining tables, chairs, buffets, china cabinets. Desks, bookshelves, filing cabinets. Coffee tables, end tables, entertainment centres. Patio furniture, outdoor chairs, plastic sheds. And pretty much any other household junk you need gone.

I can't take: Paint cans, hazardous chemicals, asbestos, or anything that needs specialized hazardous waste disposal. If you're not sure about something, just ask. I'll tell you straight.
